In the wake of the Ohio shooting tragedy, President Trump appears to be stepping away from tighter gun control legislation, dimming the idea of Washington pushing ridiculous new gun measures.
Although he does agree that we need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, he emphasizes that the United States already has "very strong background checks right now", just like the NRA.
President Trump has also cut off his communication with Democratic lawmakers seeking to develop bipartisan gun-control measures, further ensuring that our guns aren't going anywhere.
He is making it clear that he is truly not trying to take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, which is incredibly important. He instead is working on taking measures that lead to “strong, meaningful background checks” that would help prevent “people that are insane, people that are mentally ill” from obtaining firearms.
White House officials said they are preparing a list of other ideas on gun and mental health issues for Trump to review and potentially pass on to Congress with his support.
What do you think about Trump's stance on gun control? Should anything be done, or is it fine the way it is?
