Just a few short hours ago, President Trump signed an executive order officially cancelling all student loan debt for disabled military veterans.
To top it off, this order also clears said eligible veterans from having to pay any federal income taxes on these loans, and is urging individual states to do the same.
“The debt of these disabled veterans will be completely erased,” Trump said. “That’s hundreds of millions of dollars of student loans debt for our disabled veterans that will be completely erased.”
To make it even easier for these brave servicemen and women, Trump made it one of the main points of this order to make the process easy with minimal burden on the veterans, seeing as they've already been through enough.
The program, called Total and Permanent Disability Discharge, or TPD, will have their debt forgiven under a loan forgiveness program. This announcement comes shortly after President Trump hired a longtime student loan industry executive to be the federal government's top person for the student loan market.
The man, Robert Cameron, has a position to protect student loan borrowers from poor practices in the student loan industry.
